How to Plant Your Snake Plant (Sansevieria)
Step-by-step guide β like the manual that comes with the plant
Unbox & Acclimatize
- Carefully open the package β inspect leaves and roots for any transit stress.
- Place the plant in a shaded, cool area for 1β2 days before shifting to its final spot.
- Do NOT water immediately after delivery β let the plant settle first.
Choose the Right Location
- Pick a spot near an east or north-facing window with bright indirect light.
- Ensure good air circulation. Avoid low-lying spots where water can collect.
- For pot growing: choose a container 2β3 inches wider than the nursery bag.
Prepare Soil & Container
- Well-draining cactus or succulent mix.β¦
- Add a 1β2 inch layer of gravel or broken pot pieces at the bottom for drainage.
- Fill the pot 1/3 with your prepared mix before placing the plant.
Plant the Sapling
- Cut the nursery bag carefully from the sides β never pull the plant out by its stem.
- Place the root ball in the centre. Keep the graft joint (knobby bump) above soil level.
- Fill soil around the roots firmly, pressing gently to remove air pockets.
First Watering
- Water slowly and thoroughly until water drains freely from the bottom holes.
- Ensure your pot has at least one drainage hole β waterlogging kills roots fast.
- Going forward: Water every 2-3 weeks. Let soil dry completely between waterings.β¦
Ongoing Care & Monitoring
- Fertilize: Once a month in growing season.β¦
- Wipe leaves. Remove dead leaves from base.β¦
